When a shift is posted to the Shift Board, staff who hold the role have a window of time to request it. If no one requests the shift before the shift's start time, the posting expires.

If the Expired Shift Has an Owner

  • The shift stays with the original employee

  • The employee is expected to work the shift unless a manager intervenes

If the employee is not expected to work the shift, manager action is required.
A manager can either:

  1. Delete the shift, or

  2. Keep the shift on the schedule by:

    • Adding a work code

    • Adding a label of “Not Worked”

    • Adding an unpaid break equal to the full length of the shift

This preserves schedule integrity without assigning hours.

If the Expired Shift Is an Open Shift

  • The shift remains on the schedule, unassigned

  • It is not deleted, even if unfilled

This preserves schedule integrity for auditing and future copy functions.
